How To See The Doctor

Except on Monday Morning you may consult any of the doctors by appointment and if you wish to see a particular doctor please mention this to the receptionist.

Appointments may be made by calling at the Medical Centre or by telephone. If you can not keep your appointment please let us know.

No appointment is needed to attend an Open Surgery.

If you wish to speak to the Doctor on the telephone, the receptionist will take your number and the Doctor will call you back when possible.

All emergencies should attempt to attend the daily Open Surgery. If you ring to make an emergency appointment for the afternoon, your number will be taken and a Doctor will speak to you before afternoon surgery starts. They may invite you to attend at 5.20pm the same day, the following days Open Surgery or offer you telephone advice.

HOME VISITS
HOME VISITS ARE FOR THOSE WHO ARE TOO ILL TO ATTEND SURGERY AND FOR PROBLEMS THAT WILL NOT WAIT.
Please try to telephone before 10.30am.

OUT OF HOURS
When the surgery is closed always ring the Practice telephone number first (029 2073 9999). A recorded message will tell you how you can contact a Doctor. Please listen to the whole message. The Practice's out of hours cover will be undertaken by Connect2OOH Cardiff. General medical advice can be obtained from NHS Direct on 0845 46 47.

REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS
All repeat prescriptions, which are authorised by the Doctors, are issued by computers. To obtain a repeat prescription please leave the request slip issued with every Prescription at Reception or alternatively you may post, fax or email ( enquiries@gp-w97065.wales.nhs.uk ) your request to us. We are able to post your repeat prescription back to you if you include a stamped addressed envelope.

RESULTS
The Receptionist will be able to give you results of investigations after 2.00pm either at the counter or by telephone.

PRACTICE NURSE
Our Practice Nurse is available Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs and Friday by appointment. Her services include:

PHLEBOTOMIST
Our phlebotomist is available for blood tests on Wednesdays, by appointment, between 9.00 - 12.00

HEALTH VISITORS
The Health Visitors have an office in the Medical Centre and are able to offer advice particularly on the care of under 5's, immunisation, feeding and behavioural problems. They hold baby clinics on Tuesdays 1.00 - 2.30 or may be contacted during the week by telephone on 2054 9547.

SUGGESTIONS AND COMPLAINTS
We operate a practice complaints procedure as part of the NHS system for dealing with complaints. The complaints Leaflet gives details of the procedure and is available from Reception. Our aim is to give the highest possible standard of service and we try to deal swiftly with any problems that may occur.

SMOKING SESSATION CLINIC
Every Tuesday. Arrange appointment through reception.

CONTRACEPTION
We offer a full range of family planning services including coil and cap fitting, Pill advice, Depot injections, and advice on male and female sterilisation and pregnancy counselling.

If EMERGENCY Contraception is required, contact the Practice as soon as possible and the Receptionist will arrange an appointment for you as soon as it is convenient.

MATERNITY CARE
Ante-natal clinic is held weekly on Monday 1.30 - 2.30 and Wednesday 9.30 - 11.30 by appointment and is run by the Community Midwife.

INFANT DEVELOPMENT ASSESSMENT CHILDRENS IMMUNISATION CLINIC
Every Tuesday 1.00 - 2.00. Please ask the Health Visitor or Receptionist if you have not had an appointment by post.

SPEECH THERAPY & HEARING TESTS FOR CHILDREN
Arrange with Health Visitor or Doctor

MINOR SURGERY
The Practice is approved for minor surgical procedures such as the removal of cysts and moles and injection of joints. A Wart Clinic is held every 4 weeks. Please see a Doctor for assessment first.

PRIVATE MEDICAL EXAMINATION
(Not covered by the NHS) Arrange with the Receptionist - you will be advised of the fee involved.
